Good files to convert
- Manuals, handbooks and policy documents.
- Reports, white papers and research papers.
- Lecture slides exported to PDF and course readers.
- Exported docs: Markdown from Notion, Obsidian or GitHub; plain-text logs and READMEs.
Free: files up to 5 MB and 5,000 characters of text. Pro: 50 MB and 100,000 characters.
Your file stays on your device
FastWikiGen reads the PDF with pdf.js inside your browser. Only the extracted text is sent to write the wiki — the file itself is never uploaded and nothing is stored on our server.
Scanned PDFs
A scanned PDF is a picture of text, so there's nothing to read until it has been through OCR. If FastWikiGen says “no text found”, run OCR first (for example with your scanner software, Adobe Acrobat or Google Drive's “Open with Google Docs”), then paste the text under Paste notes.
Frequently asked questions
Which file types work?
PDF (with selectable text), TXT, Markdown (.md), CSV, JSON, HTML and log files.
My PDF is longer than the limit. What now?
FastWikiGen offers to use the first part of the text. Pro raises the limit to 100,000 characters; very long documents work best split into chapters.
Does it keep the PDF's headings?
It uses them as a guide but builds the structure that reads best as a wiki — often grouping and renaming sections, and adding tables where the content suits them.
