Acme Widget 3000 Operator Handbook
This wiki condenses the operating rules, setup steps, fault codes, and upkeep schedule for the Acme Widget 3000. It matters because correct installation, safe handling, and basic troubleshooting prevent overheating, calibration loss, and unnecessary downtime. Use Safety before opening the case, then follow Installation, Operation, Troubleshooting, and Maintenance for routine use.
Overview#
The Acme Widget 3000 is operated with a simple power-up sequence, three power modes, and a small set of fault indicators. Its most important operating constraints are thermal: the heat sink can reach 85 C during operation, and BOOST is limited to 15 minutes. For first-time setup, follow Installation and keep the safety rules in Safety in mind before applying power.
Safety#
Before any service or internal access, disconnect power completely. This prevents electric shock and accidental startup while the case is open. Also wear gloves, because the heat sink reaches 85 C during operation. Those two rules are the minimum protection steps and apply whenever you move from normal use into inspection or maintenance described in Maintenance.
Installation#
Install the unit on a flat surface and secure it with four M5 screws tightened to 2.5 Nm. Connect the 24 V DC supply to terminal J1, using red = + and black = -. Leave 10 cm of free space on each side so airflow is not blocked; poor clearance can contribute to the overheating symptom described in Troubleshooting.
Mounting and clearance#
Use a flat mounting surface and four M5 screws at 2.5 Nm. Keep 10 cm of clearance on each side. That spacing supports airflow and helps avoid thermal faults, especially if the machine is used in BOOST mode.
Power connection#
Wire the 24 V DC supply to J1 with the correct polarity: red to + and black to -. A polarity mistake can prevent startup, so verify the leads before applying power.
Operation#
Normal startup is brief: press START for 2 seconds. When the unit is ready, the LED turns green. Select the mode based on load and duty cycle, keeping in mind that higher output increases heat and runtime limits. If the unit does not become ready, compare the LED state with Troubleshooting.
Startup and ready state#
Hold START for 2 seconds to begin operation. The ready indication is a green LED, which confirms the unit has accepted the command and is prepared for use.
Mode selection#
Use the mode that matches the task. ECO draws 40 W, NORMAL draws 65 W, and BOOST draws 90 W with a maximum duration of 15 minutes. BOOST is the highest-load option, so it is the most likely to require cooling afterward.
Troubleshooting#
The LED provides the fastest diagnostic clues. A red blink three times indicates overheating, while a completely off LED points to the fuse. Error E7 means calibration has been lost. Use the matching recovery step immediately, and if the symptom returns after a reset, recheck the installation and airflow in Installation.
LED fault patterns#
If the LED blinks red 3 times, the unit is overheating. Let it cool for 10 minutes before restarting. If the LED is off, inspect fuse F2, which is a 2 A slow-blow fuse.
Calibration recovery#
For Error E7 (calibration lost), hold START + STOP for 5 seconds to recalibrate. This restores the calibration state without changing the operating modes listed in Operation.
Maintenance#
Clean the air filter every 200 hours of operation. Replace it every 1,000 hours using part AW-F12. Regular filter service reduces airflow restriction, which helps prevent the overheating condition referenced in Troubleshooting.
